Healing and Hope: Supporting Youth Mental Health After California Wildfires

During the widespread crisis of wildfire, entire communities experience collective trauma and displacement. Providers across all professions will inevitably work with youth and families affected by trauma, regardless of their experience or knowledge of it. This presentation will equip professionals with essential information, strategies, and resources to support communities and families impacted by California’s wildfires.
⭐️ This event is primarily designed for mental health, medical, and educational professionals who work with children and families. We also warmly welcome families, caregivers, and anyone else interested in joining us.

What comes to mind when you think about autism, ADHD, and dyslexia? For most people, disabilities immediately conjure up perceived weaknesses, challenges, and deficiencies. This talk will bridge the gap between theory and practice, highlighting one of the most important social justice movements of our time. This session will include a historical overview, an examination of relevant language, self-reflection, and space for candid discussion. Together, we will interrogate the medical model of disability and question the ableist rituals and philosophies that are firmly entrenched in our society.

Anxiety, Masking, and Neurodivergence

It will focus on the effects of masking, where students hide their neurodivergent traits to fit in, often resulting in increased anxiety and emotional exhaustion. The presentation will provide practical strategies for educators, professionals, and families to create supportive environments that reduce the need for masking and promote mental well-being.
